Catered Chalet Deals Are to Be Booked because of the Crunch
With the pound fetching only slightly more than a Euro at Travelex airport counters, you’d believe that there would be a lot of fantastic ski deals to be had in alpine resorts this Christmas as snowboarders stick back home to avoid the financial crisis. Early numbers recently publicized point to the fact that ski resorts are 83 % booked during the New year and Christmas time period. 11 % up on the self same period last season.
You will have better chance in January which at the moment shows a 37 39 % reservation rate. Signs of a recession is across the key February vacation month which has 66 percent reservations, 2 % down on a year ago. Information kiosks in the resorts of Grand Massif, Isola 2000, Verchaix and Avoriaz have noted strong reservations in Nov furthered by the fantastic early on season snows. Flegere has higher demand compared to last season, and Les Grands Montets had a superior Christmas as did Alps Chamonix.
However there is heavy interest in bigger self catering chalets, 7 to 13 places, as people group up to save. Early evidence shows that DIY ski breaks are holding up well, perhaps evidence that earnest boarders will not fore-go their ski trip to the mountains. However bookings for the big tour operators are down on last year.
