Two Ways to Freeroll
A freeroll poker online game is always welcomed by poker tournament players, because there is no entry fee. To gain entry to a freeroll usually entails playing many hands online to qualify for the freeroll event or to play for a certain number of hours in a live online poker room. The one real advantage of playing a freeroll is that you cannot lose anything but your time. The term freeroll is sometimes also used to describe certain situations that arise while playing poker. This happens when a hand is a sure lock to win at least half the pot - for instance, two opponents both make the Ace high straight. However, one player’s hand still has the possibility to improve - say to a flush. Basically, the player who can improve is freerolling because half the pot is guaranteed and it’s possible the flush will materialize to defeat the other player with the entire pot going to the “freeroller.” Most often in Texas Hold ‘Em this freeroll scenario develops when two players have the same straight or pairs and kickers, but one player has a flush draw. It can also occur when a player still has a draw to higher straight. For instance, you hold K-10 and your opponent holds A-10. The flop boards shapes up with J-9-7-8, so you both have hit the Jack high straight. However, if a Queen comes out, you hit a higher straight to the King. These freeroll situations don’t happen often and are a welcome development on the rare occasions they do crop up.
