Synthetic fertilizers are usually manufactured chemically, hence being called synthetic. However, they are not natural, and many argue that lawns should be treated naturally. Applications of synthetic fertilizer needs to be redone more often, as results don’t last as long. They can also burn your lawn if not applied in a proper manner.

Finally, organic fertilizers are made from once living organisms and their bi-products. These are applied to the lawn by spreaders, rakes and even by hand. Since this a totally natural fertilizer, the organics tend to break down slow when releasing nitrogen. The incentive program was announced in August 2003 to provide Canadians, especially those with older houses, with extra motivation to improve the energy efficiency of their home. The amount of the incentive is based on the difference in the EnerGuide for Houses energy efficiency rating before and after upgrades are implemented - the greater the improvement in the rating, the larger the incentive, to a maximum of $3,348. The average grant is $700.

Research by Natural Resources Canada shows that homeowners who have renovated after using the service achieved average energy savings of 32 percent. They also trimmed their home’s greenhouse gas emissions by 2.2 tonnes per year, putting these families well on the way to meeting the government’s challenge for Canadians to reduce their personal production of greenhouse gases by one tonne per year as part of Canada’s strategy for implementing the Kyoto Protocol.

Overall, the Fairy Rose still has my thumbs up because of the over the top bloom power that it has.

The butterfly rose is also a great pick.

Mutablis (otherwise known as the butterfly rose) is my last pick of these easy to grow roses. It, like some of the others, blooms constantly throughout the year. The flowers change colors as they develop and this is a unique property that I have only observed in one other rose. The petals begin as a delicate yellow, turn to an orange color, then change to pink, and finally wind up a deep and vibrant red color. This rose is also resistant to disease and is definitely a very hardy grower.

These are just a few of the roses that are easy to bloom and are therefore great starter roses for any rose garden. You offer yourself the opportunity to become familiar with roses and general terms and aspects of rose gardening without becoming heavily involved by choosing a rose that is simple and easy to grow to begin your garden with. As your skill and understanding of roses develops, you can then move onto bigger challenges by planting some of the more difficult to grow roses in your garden.

Either way, be sure to check whether the contractor has appropriately certified personnel on staff (licensed air conditioning mechanics, electricians, gas fitters, oil burner technicians, etc.), whether they offer 24 hour emergency service, and what maintenance and service agreements are available for long term care.

2. Getting Estimates

Arrange for at least three estimates on large jobs and always insist that the contractor come and inspect the job site. Some small jobs may be priced out and an estimate written immediately, but larger jobs (including replacement installations) will require additional time to price properly and to prepare a heat loss and gain calculation

for proper sizing of the equipment.

3. The Contract

Your contract is a legal, binding document when signed by both parties, so be sure you understand and agree with the contents before signing. Any changes or additions in the work to be done should never be made without those alterations being written into the contract and initialled by both parties. If extra billing is to occur, it must be clearly stated and initialled by both parties. The contract should clearly state the following items:
