A New Twist in Altercation Between YouTube and Viacom

In an altercation that had been continuing for a long time, amidst the two companies, YouTube attacks Viacom, stating that it is guilty of uploading video to its site. YouTube has recently attacked Viacom stating that it is resorting to the use of fake email addresses in order to upload videos to its site, and this was done after ‘roughing them up’ so that it would resemble material that had been procured by unfair means.

The altercation has started before Google had bought YouTube in the recent past, and is due, chiefly due to the fact that Viacom has categorically stated that YouTube regularly gave permission to its users for the purpose of uploading as well as watching television and additional movie content and this is supposed to be restricted by means of copyright (see UK broadband providers for information on your ISP download limits). Instances of violation were given like MTV Unplugged and South Park, in the recent past, and subsequently, Viacom resorted to a £497m copyright contravention lawsuit against its rival, YouTube, amidst claims that it had sought approximately 160,000 TV clips which were telecast without prior permission.

The row escalated in the recent past, when Viacom ordered Google to let go of its YouTube user data for the purpose of substantiating its lawsuit-and this order led to serious public concern related with matters of privacy. YouTube stated their defense on the basis of laws that categorically emphasize the fact that publishers are not accountable for material that have been primarily posted by the users.

In the current round of vengeance, retaliation was foremost in the mind of YouTube and this is evident in the comments by Zahavah Levine who is YouTube’s chief counsel and this was stated in his blog post, that Viacom had been making furtive and secretive plans, for many years for the purpose of uploading their content to YouTube, while simultaneously publicly grumbling about their presence in the site. To achieve their devious ends, they had recruited almost 18 varied marketing agencies for the purpose of uploading the contents to the site. It had purposely ‘roughed up’ the videos so that they would resemble stolen or revealed videos.

This altercation has been a matter of considerable interest for the observers, and the case is due to be settled in the near future.

Sat-Nav Companies Face Stiff Competition as Nokia Launches New Map Service

Nokia is in the news with its latest product- a free mapping and navigation service. The launch of this product is good news for customers who frequently travel the path less trodden, but makers of satellite navigational (sat-nav) maps are not very happy. This free Nokia service is likely to make a big dent in their business revenues.

The new Nokia product is also likely to give some stiff competition to stand-alone products, which will mean that its customers’ dependence on other sat-nav devices will be drastically reduced.

The service will, for now, be made available on about 10 Nokia phone handset models, which presently covers a huge 83 million handsets that have already been purchased by users. All new handsets that will be sold henceforth will, as a matter of course, have the new maps service pre-loaded in them.

The new navigational service has been christened Ovi Maps. With this service, customers will get “turn-by-turn” navigational guidance. Different routes will be displayed depending on whether the customer is travelling by foot or in a vehicle. In addition, there will also be location-specific directions, 2D and 3D European maps for UK users with the option of downloading more maps if needed. As these maps are stored in the handset itself, the network load is reduced.

According to Nokia, this service could be the precursor to a huge network of maps with third-party developers bringing in new applications and tools to work in conjunction with this service.

While customers welcome the news, sat-nav device makers like TomTom may find that this new service could cause severe damage to their business prospects. The market for navigational directions is still considered a nascent one with many players trying to capitalise on the demand here. The free mapping service trend actually began with Google’s offering of a free sat-nav which was introduced with the Nexus One handset and Motorola Droid. However , both Nokia and Google are confident that the presumable losses that could occur owing to this free service could be recovered by contextual advertising .

Need for VOIP

VOIP or voice over Internet Protocol is the ability to transmit voice over the Internet to either a receiving computer, telephone or even a mobile phone. VOIP offers an inexpensive alternative to traditional telephones and keeps you away from huge bills. VOIP helps you save money, especially for long distance calls. It also enables you to talk to several people simultaneously. It offers different services with developing technologies. VoIP enables you to send any type of data at higher speeds of Internet. It is increasingly becoming a great choice for residential and business customers. Many providers offer unlimited plans, that will give the subscriber unlimited long distance, free calling with VOIP.

VOIP promises cost savings over traditional phone lines and thus allows you to save on your monthly phone expenses.VOIP is one of the coolest advancements you’ve ever been blessed to experience. VoIP allows you to make phone calls over the internet, using your computer, to pretty much anywhere on the planet. the technology with VoIP has yet to progress to the point where you will consistently experience crystal clear sound over slower internet connections. If you currently live in an area that hasn’t been wired for broadband, you shouldn’t have to wait too long for the technology to progress to where you can enjoy a quality conversation over a slow internet connection.

However, the quality can suffer without a high speed internet connection. VoIP services cost less than residential phone service and much, much less than most monthly cell phone plans. If your broadband internet company just happens to be one of companies that currently offers VoIP services, then its better because it would cost you higher if used an independent or outside company for your VoIP phone service. If your internet connection goes down you wouldn’t be able to make or receive phone calls.Due to lack of signal strength, your calls can also get dropped.Although it has some drawbacks, but once you use it, you’ll not want to loose it, especially with your bills getting lower each month.

With many people discovering the benefits of VOIP by switching from using their land line telephones to VoIP service, VoIP phone service providers are increasing in popularity. People are now aware that VoIP phone services costs significantly less than standard phone service. In today’s advanced technology world, VOIP is expected to have a great future ahead.

Is VoIP the “Next Big Thing” in Telecommunications?

VoIP or Voice Over Internet Protocol has been simmering for the past few years. This year the market has heated up. Many large businesses have jumped on the VoIP bandwagon and have realized savings of 50-percent or more off their phone bills. VoIP providers are competing to add to or replace large PBX systems for the corporations and add web conferencing capabilities plus wireless VoIP (wVoIP) over LAN’s as well.

Hospitals and other large, fragmented workforces are discovering the value of using wireless VoIP phones to converse with one another quickly and efficiently while in different wings, floors or buildings of a large facility. This kind of wireless VoIP setup can have huge cost savings over cell phones and is more efficient that using pagers.

While business VoIP has caught on in the corporate landscape, residential VoIP is still trying to take hold. This is largely because of a couple of current disadvantages of VoIP. First, not all current VoIP systems have power backups. When the power goes out in a residence, the landline is still operational. Since VoIP works over a high-speed Internet connection, which requires power, if the power goes down, so does the VoIP connection. This will be of concern to many concerned about emergency situations. The good news is that many VoIP hardware providers are starting to deliver systems with power backup to address just this issue.

The second drawback of residential VoIP is that not all current VoIP service providers offer full, 24-7 emergency 911 service. After hour calls in Florida, may be mistakenly rerouted to Idaho for instance. This is also about to change. The Federal Communications Commission has mandated that all phone service providers offer e911 service as standard. According to the FCC, “All interconnected VoIP providers must automatically provide E9-1-1 services to all customers as a standard, mandatory feature without customers having to specifically request this service. VoIP providers may not allow their customers the option to “opt-out” of E9-1-1 service.”

Clearly, though, residential VoIP is heading towards direct competition with the local phone companies’ coveted landlines. A couple of years ago at a meeting in SBC’s Publishing division, one of the executive managers cried, “Landlines, we need to stop losing landlines!” This was in response to cell phone companies taking away market share from the local Baby Bells. Now that VoIP is on the radar, the executive management teams for the local and long-distance phone companies must be huddling in their back offices, trying to figure out how they will stop the bleeding in the years to come.

With VoIP costing far less that traditional local and long-distance phone service and overcoming the last of the residential hurdles, one can be sure that consumers will soon be taking notice. Many will also start wearing t-shirt like “VoIP VIP” and “Got VoIP?” to herald in the new era in telecommunications.

Vodafone Contemplates Buying T-Mobile, Reports FT

According to Financial Times reports, Vodafone has offered proposal to buy the troubled mobile broadband company, T-Mobile UK, and it would make Vodafone the largest mobile broadband service provider in the UK if the deal proves successful.

The report published in the Financial Times’ Sunday edition was however not confirmed by either of the companies. The paper cited sources familiar with the information, which has been coming out during the past few months regarding the sale of T-Mobile. FT also said that the news initially came up about six months back when T-Mobile’s parent company, Deutsche Telekom, disclosed its plan of getting out of the UK’s mobile broadband market.

During the last month, the news of T-Mobile’s sale resurfaced when Deutsche Telekom the parent company of T-Mobile, reduced the division’s book value, which was seen as a sign of getting rid of the distressed division. Initially Orange and 3mobile were the expected contenders for the deal.

Vodafone with its 25% market share in the UK mobile broadband market is expected to gain a huge advantage from this buy out. If the deal is finalised, then Vodafone will hit the 40% mark in terms of market share, which is likely to leave Ofcom annoyed. Ofcom has been working towards maintaining a competitive market, and as Vodafone

VoIP and the Communications Industry

Are you worried about the costly long distance phone rates? Do you want to find some ways on how to call your loved ones in a cheap way? Are you a student who finds it hard to make a call with your parents? Is your company paying too much for long distance call? Have you heard how VoIP contributes in communication business? The waiting is over, VoIP is the answer.

VoIP can eliminate all those expensive long distance rates. To further discuss, VoIP is the newest and most advanced audio communications technology.

VoIP stands for Voice over internet protocol. This latest communication innovation which has a variety of different applications and features in order to give a clear and affordable conversation all over the world.

How does VoIP work?

Many people are quite amazed on how VoIP works. Well, its features work on a revolutionary technology. It has a communication method that streamlines the sending analog audio signal. The signal is converted into a sound to be sent digitally over transmission lines through the internet.

According to the service providers of VoIP, by using this technology the user can have free “by minute charges”. That is one of the great things about VoIP plans.

If the “by minute charges” is consumed, the user will have to pay the monthly fee and make all the calls they want over the computer.

The VoIP procedure is very simple but an elegant and simplistic way of communication. It can be the greatest solution for long distance call problems that everyone is waiting for.

The VoIP works on several ways, in communication, like circuit transmitting, data pocket exchanging and retrieval of information by using the computer.

This communication system can also send the information by finding the open channels that are available rather than out-and-out lines. The information transmitted simply assembled at the source location. Comparatively VoIP works more efficient.

In order to be aware of how VoIP works, it is first important to know the basic concept of traditional analog audio communication. The analog audio communication can be very helpful in terms of VoIP communication.

The basic analog phone calls are actually made on the fiber optic communication network. These networks can make a voice communication by collecting voices communications. The voices are delivered directly to the destination, while the signals are also converted to analog.

VoIP can assure a cheap or even free telephone call for the users. For some companies, it also means generating income. This is good news for the companies who want to cut some of their expenses. Most of the companies spend thousands of dollars per year just because of long distance calls alone.

Now, if the company would like to have far-reaching consultation call, VoIP can make more sense when it comes to that issue. It can also combine conference options like sharing of documents and multiple conversations.

According to some statistics, most of the companies that patronize VoIP has earned 80 percent of its revenues compared to other telecommunication that only gives 55 percent.

The great shift of VoIP is starting to hit top rating national telecommunication industry and international mobile corporations.

As a conclusion, VoIP is indeed a very interesting breakthrough when it comes to communications. It is the most well-organized, accurate, efficient, and much less expensive way of talking to the people you need to communicate to. Why not try VoIP? It can be the answer to all of those communication hindrances.
